Uploading and organising

+ New document at the bottom of the Notes submenu opens a dialog with two options:

  • Upload a file — pick a file from disk;
  • Import a URL — a field for a link. It must start with http:// or https://, otherwise you get an error. “Import” downloads the page and saves its content as a document.

An uploaded file goes through text extraction — including recognising text in images and PDFs — after which the document is findable by full-text search.

A document card shows the title or file name, the description, a relative date, the size, the extension and the collection. Above the list is search over titles, file names and descriptions.

A single click opens a preview in the middle column, a double click opens its own tab.

A document opens in the built-in viewer: PDFs page by page, images with zoom, everything else as extracted text. Search works inside the text, and the document can be downloaded in its original form from there.

Open in a new tab · show in folder · move to a collection · rename · duplicate · delete. The current collection is ticked.

Documents have no export or print — that is specific to notes.

Documents with a text or structured extension (md, txt, log, json, xml, yaml, toml, ini, cfg, conf) gain Create note: the document becomes a full note and opens in a new tab. If a note was already made from this document, that one opens instead of a duplicate.

Text documents and markdown are edited inside Yttri. The file on disk changes with them; if the same file was changed outside, the divergence is shown rather than silently overwritten.

A deleted document goes to the bin, shared with notes, recordings and everything else. It shows when it was deleted and how many days remain before automatic cleanup.
